PetraSlate was started out of the growing need in Colorado for quality slate products. In the early 90’s slate was considered an “exotic” stone in Colorado, even though it had been used for hundreds of years in Europe and the Northeast US. This was the case because Colorado is far from the slate quarries that run along the border between New York and Vermont – and even farther from the quarries in Brazil, China and India.
PetraSlate saw the growing need for premium grade slate for roofing and as floor and wall tile. From our small beginnings buying from one quarry, we have grown to be the largest wholesale stocking distributor of premium slate products in Colorado.
In our 24 years in business, we have learned a thing or two about slate, the properties that make good slate products, the slate that works best in certain conditions; and how to tell the difference before it’s too late. One thing for certain, all slate is not equal. Things like color consistency, hardness, tile gauging, and the material makeup of the stone can have a huge impact on what the finished product looks like, and equally important, how long it lasts. That is why we only buy slate from quarries with proven high quality standards.
With this infrastructure in place, our obvious next step was to expand our product lines into other unique floor and wall covering items, like mosaics, real stacked stone veneers, artistic etched tile; and hardscape products like concrete barn plank pavers, to name a few.
We invite flooring companies, tile installers, architects and other construction craftsmen to view the many product lines within our site and if you need samples or other literature to please call us!
