PetraSlate® products are all natural materials that offer a wide range of uses. Perfect for floors, walls, fireplace surrounds, tub or shower installations and backsplashes. PetraSlate® products add a unique and special look to any job.

All PetraSlate® items are products of nature and can have a wide range of natural variations in color, thickness and texture within each stone color. No two pieces are exactly the same. Make sure you are aware of the variations within a particular color before ordering. The photographs on this website are intended as a general guide only.

Do not make a selection without being familiar with the color variation within a particular stone. Sorry, we cannot hand select for specific color tones. We recommend that you order 5 to 10 percent extra for variations in installation, breakage and for attic storage in case a piece has to be replaced at a later date.

Most of our slate products are cut nominal. This means a 12x12 tile will be about 11 ¾" x 11 ¾". Stock sizes include 12x12, 16x16 or 18x18, 16x24 and 24x24 for most colors. Custom sizes include 4x4, 6x6, 8x8, 3x6, 4x12 and 6x12 and are cut at our Broomfield, Colorado location. Larger sizes, special cuts, ashlar patterns and flagging are available upon request.

We recommend sealing all PetraSlate® products with high quality penetrating sealers or impregnators that are made specifically for natural stone. This will seal the stone and minimize staining. Depending on the look you want, most sealing products have top-coats that range from a subtle matte finish to a high gloss. Be aware that some sealers and top-coats can change the look of the stone. Also, some may reduce or eliminate the visual contrast of the designs on the New Dimensions products.

Interior and exterior installation information is shown for each color of slate on this website. All slates will work outside in moderate climates where freezing temperatures do not occur. However, some sedimentary slates will not hold up in freezing temperatures and are not recommended for outside use is those areas. Limestones and travertines are not recommended where freeze/thaw conditions exist.

Installation constitutes acceptance. We recommend dry setting, cleaning and sorting material prior to installation to ensure an overall quality blend of colors and to eliminate potential problems.
